EPISODE 5: A Birthday XanaTWOfer: Xanadu with Don Fields and Derek Bishop

Welcome back darlings and galpals to another episode of ‘Super Funk-In Serious with Sparkle Sid!” Today is a special day: It’s my birthday!
To kick off the festivities, we are diving deep into my favourite movie of all time… Xanadu!
The movie is much more than a roller disco movie… It has complicated origins during its’ production and now has a cult following that led to a Broadway musical version in 2007 and celebrated its’ 40th anniversary most recently in August of this year!
You may not have seen the movie, but you probably have heard the awesome music from the film that is written by John Farrar (For the star Olivia Newton-John) and Jeff Lynne from the Electric Light Orchestra.
Since one interview is not enough, I have TWO fantastic XanaDUDES on today to discuss various everything and everything!
My first guest is Don Fields, Xanadu fan and webmaster of the Xanadu Preservation Society fan site and Facebook group. His knowledge of the film is very extensive that I just HAD to get him on! We discuss the origins of the film, the ever-changing script, the music, the film’s legacy and so much more!
My second guest is Derek Bishop, a Xanadu fan whose life seems VERY similar to the main character of Sonny. We talk about how Xanadu influenced his decision to become an artist, and talk about his career path all the way to present day as he talks about designing THE CAST ALBUM cover of the Broadway production!
